Effective management of critically ill patients during disaster is dependent upon the efficient provision of evidence-based care. In the current climate, non-ICU nurses must be prepared for critical situations and critical care. A team-based approach with critical care registered nurses supported by additional staff members would increase the capacity for intensive care situations.

Combining rapid, specific and clinical tailored education and training as well as focused monitoring and clinical decision-making support, promotes a safe and competent environment for any disaster plan. Education and training is not complete without the ability to ultilize technology to tailor specific event information, first decreasing nuisance alarms and then, predicting impending issues. All combined, this multi-level strategy provides a unique platform of assurance fo all prviders, seasoned and newly minted. Ensuring the safety and resilience of nursing staff during pandemic-related surge capacity is an essential component of disaster preparedness.
